Announcement for students appearing in November 2010 examination – Direct Taxes & Direct Tax Laws

For students appearing in November 2010 examination, the amendments made by the Finance (No.2) Act, 2009, as applicable for a`ssessment year 2010-11, are relevant. Therefore, the amendments made by the Finance (No.2) Act, 2009 which are not applicable for A.Y.2010-11 would not be relevant for students appearing for November 2010 examination.


Accordingly, the amendments made by the Finance (No.2) Act, 2009 in sec 44AA, 44AB, 44AD, 44AE & 44AF would not be applicable for the students appearing for the above-mentioned papers in Nov ’10 exams.

Incentive for filling the CA examination application forms thru Online mode


In order to reduce the time taken in processing the OMR application forms and also to ensure accuracy in the data pertaining to Name, Registration No., Group/Centre/Medium opted, it has been decided to make the filling of Examination Application Forms Online at the url http://icaiexam.icai.org/ as the only mode of application for various CA examinations with effect from May, 2011.

Announcement for students appearing in November 2010 examination PCC/IPCC

For students appearing in November 2010 examination, the amendments made by the Finance (No.2) Act, 2009, as applicable for assessment year 2010-11 are relevant.


Accordingly, the amendments in sections 44AA, 44AB, 44AD, 44AE and 44AF of the Income-tax Act, 1961 would not be applicable for the students appearing for the above-mentioned papers in November 2010 examination.

PSU banks' freedom to choose auditors may be reviewed

The finance ministry may put on hold the final phase of its two-year-old road map that was meant to give complete freedom to PSB to choose their statutory central auditors.

ICAI has been opposing the ‘autonomy’ move from the very beginning, as it felt that by giving the banks the powers to choose their auditors, the government was weakening the auditor’s powers to make critical observations against the PSBs.

From 2010-11 onwards, the ministry is likely to ask banks to follow the previous year’s practice, which necessitates the involvement of the RBI in the selection process.

ICAI notification on first year Transfer / Terminating of Articleship

In partial modification of the announcement dated 30th June 2009 regarding transfer / termination of articles the Council in its recent meeting has decided that the transfer/termination of articleship in terms of Regulation 56(1) of the Chartered Accountants Regulations, 1988 shall be permissible on the grounds as stated below: -


I. Transfer /termination of articles is permitted without any restriction during the first year of articles.

Khurshid: 33% reservation for women in CA profession

The Corporate Affairs Minister, Mr Salman Khurshid, has called for higher representation of women in the chartered accountancy profession, similar to the 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament.


“If there can be 33 per cent representation for women in Parliament, then why not something like that in the chartered accountancy profession too?,” Mr Khurshid said at the Chartered Accountants’ Day celebrations organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held here.
