Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee asked the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers to come out with a “convergent” package on the proposed Goods and Services Tax (GST) by the end of the month so that a final view on the date of introduction of the new indirect regime can be taken.
“He requested us to come to him for discussion a little later with a full package for GST which would be a convergent package for states and the centre. It is only after discussion on convergent package, he said, we should take a view on the date of GST,” Committee chairman Asim Dasgupta said.
Many states have already expressed their concern about the date of implementation and urged that it should be introduced from the next fiscal.
